Promising North Melbourne draftee Mitch Hibberd has been sent for scans after suffering a knee injury in the VFL.

The 19-year-old went to turn and chase a loose ball near the wing when his foot planted in the turf, forcing the yet-to-debut Kangaroo to fall to ground clutching the knee.

Hibberd looked in obvious pain as trainers took him off the ground on a stretcher, after the innocuous incident happened in the second quarter of VFL affiliate Werribee's seven-point loss to Port Melbourne.

A North Melbourne spokesman told AFL.com.au Hibberd had been sent for scans, with the club likely to provide a further update on Monday.

Hibberd, who was recruited with pick No.33 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, has had a luckless run with injury over his junior career.

The 190cm half-back underwent a right knee reconstruction at the end of 2013 followed by a right shoulder reconstruction, which ruled him out of the 2014 draft.

More recently, Hibberd was sidelined for a month after suffering a displaced kneecap in the VFL in May.

Despite the setbacks, Hibberd worked hard in his rehabilitation and impressed North's recruiters at last year's under-18 championships and draft combine.

The Kangaroos were so encouraged by Hibberd's development they rewarded him with a one-year contract extension in May, tying him to the club until at least the end of 2018.

Meanwhile, Majak Daw landed awkwardly on his left ankle after leaping and stomping on teammate Braydon Preuss's foot in a ruck contest late in the first quarter.

The 25-year-old went straight into the change rooms and did not take any further part, watching the rest of the game from the interchange area.
