No one is safe. That’s the message from Ben Cunnington heading into season 2017.

With multiple vacancies in North’s best 22, Cunnington revealed uncertainty over spots will drive the list.

“I think everyone’s uneasy with their position,” Cunnington declared.

“In this day and age, you see how many young guys do play really well so everyone’s on edge and I think you need that in the footy club.

“It helps you motivate and look to get better with such young talent coming through.

“You are always trying to improve and I think that’s healthy. The good teams have that depth so it’s a good thing.”

Individually, the 25-year-old is looking to improve after a ‘disappointing’ year.

“It was an average sort of a year, personally,” Cunnington admitted.

“I’ve done some ok things, my inside game was ok, but I definitely feel I’ve still got a lot of improvement so in that aspect it’s a little bit disappointing.

“But I’m motivated to go again next year and go a bit better.”

The midfielder has highlighted one area in particular to work on over the summer.

“My running still has to improve and as that gets better, I’ll get to more contests and I’ll get more opportunities to improve my game.

“Looking at my strengths, I feel like they can keep improving and have an impact on the AFL there.

“I’m one to put a lot of pressure on myself, so in that aspect I do have the ability to improve.”
