Two years after first being scouted by North Melbourne, Jacob Konstanty "couldn't be happier" to finally pull on a Kangaroos guernsey.
Hailing from Drouin in Victoria's Gippsland region, Konstanty arrived back in his home state after being traded from Sydney as part of the Luke Parker deal in the closing minutes of last week's trade deadline day.
Still only 19, the young forward told NMFC Media he nearly became a Kangaroo in 2022, before the Swans took him in that year's AFL Draft with pick No.20 overall.
"Coming into that draft, I was potentially going to go [to North Melbourne]," Konstanty said. "I spoke to North a fair bit ahead of the Combine, and then I guess they've kept a tab on me for the last two years.
"On [trade deadline] day I was actually in at the club at North during the day. Then on my way home I was watching the trade period live in the car, and then as soon as I got into the driveway, I got the phone call that it was official.
"It was a really special moment … to [finally] come to North, and I couldn't be happier."
Konstanty played 23 games for the Swans' VFL side across his first two seasons, but found himself unable to break into a senior side that reached this season's AFL Grand Final.
"I've grown heaps," he said of his time in red and white.
"I had a really good time in Sydney and was really close with a lot of the boys.
"Now I've had the first two years and got through that, I'm really keen to have a fresh start at North and go from there and hopefully play AFL football.
Konstanty will need to wait before launching into pre-season training after undergoing foot surgery in September. However he won't have to look far for a familiar face at Arden St, with his former teammate and premiership-winning captain also arriving at the club as part of the same trade.
"I was close with Luke Parker [at Sydney]," Konstanty said.
"So it's awesome to get back and that he's coming with me.
"I'm super excited. I just need to get my foot right, and then hopefully get a good pre-season … start pushing for a game, build into the team and get the respect from all the boys."
