Scott: "We're not selling games"
Brad Scott has angrily refuted suggestions North Melbourne is selling two home games in Tasmania next year.
Scott spoke about the club’s plans for Tasmania at Thursday’s launch of the ‘Box On’ Premiership Pledge campaign.
“We’re not ‘selling’ games in Hobart, we’re going down to invest in the area and community. We want to grow and contribute to an area which is going to be a strong supporter base for us.
“We aren’t going down to take the money and run. This is why we need to eradicate debt because we want to successfully invest in the area, train down there and engage in the community. We need the funds to do this.”
Scott was at pains to point out North’s Hobart venture is about much more than just on-field success.
“Game results are important, but the most important thing for this football club is that we show the people of Hobart and Tasmania that we’re committed to the area on and off the football field.
“The same goes for the Ballarat region. We go up there for our community camp and play a NAB Cup game up there, but it’s not just a matter of playing games, we’ve got to commit to these regions.
“We’re not taking money from these areas just to play we’re investing in these areas to increase our market share.”
