NORTH Melbourne rookie Majak Daw stole the spotlight on Thursday night during one of two scheduled VFL practice matches held at Chirnside Park in Werribee.

Playing for the Tigers' reserves against Box Hill, Daw was predominately used up forward and in the ruck, managing four goals in a match which ran for just three periods.

"Majak was again really impressive as he continues in his development," said North development coach Jason Lappin.

The 19 year-old was active in all parts of the ground and pulled down several marks to go along with an estimated possession count in the high teens after recovering from a broken toe which had kept him sidelined for two weeks.

"Majak had very little touch coming into this match due to his injury so for him to kick four goals was a really good effort."

Daw was taken with North's first pick in the 2009 rookie draft and has steadily developed since arriving at Arden Street.

"Probably the most satisfying part of Majak's game was his defensive pressure. He had seven really good tackles which is fantastic for such a tall player. He had a great impact and his first quarter was excellent."

Matthew Scott also showed more promising signs playing alongside Daw in the reserves with a work-man like performance in the midfield.

"There's no doubt that Matty is a very good stoppage player and works hard, but we just have to get him to work harder with his defensive and offensive transition. He provided some good contested football though and was encouraging again."

Following the reserves match, the seniors had another three term hit-out with Ben Speight (14 disposals), Conor Meredith (nine disposals), Ayden Kennedy (seven disposals), Nathan O'Keefe (seven disposals), Robbie Tarrant (seven disposals) and Jamie Macmillan (three disposals) all representing the Kangaroos.

Tarrant continued his stint in the forward line with a return of two goals.

"There's no doubt about his work rate and he is fit this year which is a bonus. We've really got to get some value out of his hard work rate," Tigers coach Simon Atkins said after the match.

Ben Speight, named as an emergency for North's clash against the Saints on Saturday night was also a solid performer.
