North Melbourne champion Brady Rawlings has advised the club he’s accepted a new role with the West Coast Eagles.

Since his retirement in 2011, Rawlings has held the position of senior recruiter and induction coach.

“It was a really tough decision to leave North after spending so many great years at the club over such a long period of time.  The Kangaroos have been a second family to me and I’ve spent the majority of my adult life there,” Rawlings said.

Rawlings will join former team-mate and close friend Adam Simpson in Perth.

“The role as assistant coach to Simmo at the Eagles is a great opportunity and a challenge that I feel I am ready for.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone at North for their support and the understanding that has been extended to me throughout this process and decision.

“I wish the club well for the future and will cherish the memories the club has provided me and my family.”

Rawlings debuted in 1999 and played 245 games for the Roos winning the Syd Barker Medal in 2004, 2006 and 2010.

“There’s no doubting the enormous contribution Brady has made to this football club and while we are disappointed to see him go, he leaves with our blessings and well wishes,” Brad Scott said.

“He was a superb player who always managed to get the best out of himself and more recently, he was a significant resource for our football and recruiting department with his knowledge and understanding of the game and players.

“We regard Brady as a true icon of our football club and we felt it was important to encourage him to explore this opportunity in order for him to further develop his skills.

“When Brady comes back to Melbourne, he knows the door here will always be open to him.”
