In The Mix: North Melbourne v Gold Coast
The good form of those in the VFL will make things difficult at match committee.
It makes it tough to see many changes, although the good form of those in the VFL will make things difficult at match committee.
NMFC.com.au looks at those in line for a potential call-up. Have your say in the comments below.
Liam Anthony
In the words of development coach Josh Drummond, Anthony was ‘clearly the best player on the ground in the first half’ against Werribee.
He collected 24 of his 35 disposals in the first two quarters, mixing up his trademark outside run with a willingness to win his own ball in the contest.
Anthony hasn’t played a senior game since an appearance as the substitute against Hawthorn in Round 5.
Last week: 35 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal v Werribee
Majak Daw
Daw responded brilliantly to his omission following the game against Adelaide, going back to Werribee and starring both as a forward and in the ruck.
In his weekly media conference, Brad Scott stated that Daw ‘looked like an AFL player at VFL level’, meaning his time at Werribee could be short lived.
Last week: 20 disposals, 27 hit-outs, 8 marks v North Ballarat
Luke Delaney
The older Delaney brother looks the first key defender who'd be called upon in the event of a change.
Unfortunately for Delaney, Scott Thompson, Nathan Grima and now Lachlan Hansen are all in good form, meaning he may have to bide his time on the sidelines for a little longer.
Last week: 10 disposals, 4 marks, held Ben Brown to 1 goal v Werribee
Levi Greenwood
Greenwood’s last game in the senior side was Round 12, 2012 against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium. With this week’s encounter against the Suns, and Gary Ablett looming large, it could be the perfect opportunity for redemption.
Development coach John Lamont spoke about Greenwood’s readiness to step in and perform a tagging job if needed.
“In the AFL we haven’t really had anyone locking on and running with the opposition blokes but if Brad (Scott) wants to go that way, Levi’s doing a pretty good job at it and he’ll be ready to go.”
Last week: 22 disposals, 5 tackles v North Ballarat
Jordie Gysberts
In a sign the former Demon is getting closer and closer to a North debut, he was the game day emergency for the Roos’ win over the Saints.
Gysberts played two games against the Suns in his time at Melbourne, averaging 13.5 touches, 4 tackles and 3.5 clearances in the matches.
Last week: Game-day emergency
Brad McKenzie
Playing on a wing for North Ballarat, McKenzie has had his ups and downs, but appears to once again be rounding into good form.
His work rate has been solid in the last month as he continues to work on the defensive aspects of his game.
Last week: 22 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles v Werribee
