Aaron Black best afield
It was all North Melbourne in the coaches’ votes for Round 10. Six Kangaroos registered votes.
Unsurprisingly Aaron Black’s five goals saw him praised. The forward received eight votes.
Black’s four goals in the first quarter played a key part in North’s 55-point lead at the first break. Matched up on St Kilda’s first-gamer in Jackson Ferguson, he was able to find space on the lead and made no mistake with his resulting set shots.
Brent Harvey’s 350th was celebrated in style as the North champion collected 23 disposals, 5 marks, 4 clearances, 7 inside 50’s and kicked four goals. It was an impressive stat line considering he was being shadowed by Jarryn Geary for much of the evening at Etihad Stadium and earnt him seven votes.
Drew Petrie also polled seven for his four goal performance. If it wasn’t for inaccuracy Petrie could have found himself with a big bag of goals; several shots in the first quarter were inches away from travelling through on the right side of the posts.
In the defensive half Lachlan Hansen (five votes) played the loose man role to perfection. Often starting just in front of Nick Riewoldt, Hansen made the Saints skipper chase him up the ground, effecting the opposition’s preferred forward structure.
Aaron Mullett and Lindsay Thomas rounded out the votes with two and one respectively.
All up, 16 Kangaroos have polled votes from the coaches so far in 2013.
