VFL: Another stepping stone
He’s been able to stand up to every challenge thrown at him this season, and on Sunday Eric Wallace will have another huge task on his hands.
The American-rookie is set to come up against Orren Stephenson in a vital ruck duel at Eureka Stadium.
For Stephenson, it’s a return to his former home, having played in three premierships for North Ballarat before being drafted by Geelong.
Now a Tiger, the 31-year-old will be looking to lead his team to victory.
He won’t have it all his own way though. Wallace has made steady improvement as the Roosters’ number one ruckman this year, racking up big hit-out tallies and finding more of the ball as he becomes comfortable at the level.
The Roosters’ fortunes will be impacted by the availability of some important midfielders, with Brad McKenzie called up to to the North side, and Liam Anthony and Trent Dumont amongst the emergencies. Ben Jacobs is in some doubt with an ankle injury.
Richmond boasts 13 AFL-listed players in its lineup, with Sam Lloyd, Matt McDonough and Matt Arnot among a young, but capable on-ball brigade.
North Ballarat will look to extend a five-game winning streak and shore up a spot in the top eight.
For seventh-placed Werribee, getting a result against Geelong (ninth) is just as important.
John Lamont’s team will enjoy great service from the likes of Mason Wood and Ben Brown in attack, while the midfield group will be led by Tim McGenniss and Kangaroos’ development coach Jarred Moore.
Majak Daw will carry the ruck duties in the absence of Daniel Currie (shoulder), while Scott McMahon and Taylor Hine will look to further push their cases in defence.
