Robbie Tarrant is set to make his long-awaited return to football on Sunday.
The key-forward will line up for Werribee against Williamstown after overcoming an ongoing leg injury.
It will be Tarrant’s first game since Round 23 last year.
There’s good news too for Cameron Delaney, who stepped up his training and will join the group for skills this week.
NMFC.com.au spoke to director of football, Geoff Walsh, who provided the latest updates on the club’s injury situation.
#8 – Daniel Wells (foot)
Walsh: “We’re expecting him to be available to play in about two weeks.
“He’s doing all the things that they’re (the physios) asking him. There’s no red lights so he’s tracking pretty well.”
#12 – Lindsay Thomas (hamstring)
Walsh: “We are going to give Lindsay right up until our last training session on Saturday.
“Talking to him this morning and to Steve (Director of Medical Services) they are quite positive.”
#17 – Nathan Grima (foot)
Walsh: “We’ll give him one more week, so he should be available for selection next week.
“It then depends on how much game-time he’s missed to decide where he resumes (AFL or VFL), but we are pleased with the way he’s going.
“Part of the reason we gave him the time off was to off-load him, so he’s doing a fair bit of cross-training, but next week we’ll step it up back into the skills stuff.”
#25 – Robbie Tarrant (leg)
Walsh: “Taz is going to play VFL for Werribee this week which is great.
“He might be anywhere between 60 to 70 per cent (game-time) I would think. They’ll manage his game-time pretty closely given it’s his first game back.”
#27 – Taylor Garner (hamstring)
Walsh: “It’s been slow, which will mean by the time he comes back it’d be close to 16 weeks.
“He had a bit of a setback which sort of put him back to close to square one, but he’s running pretty strongly now. After a couple of weeks joining in the skills he’ll be available."
#31 – Cameron Delaney (foot)
Walsh: “He’s stepped up his training each week for the past few weeks and handled it well.
“He’s joining in with some skills and if all that goes well, it’s full training for the next two weeks and then he’ll resume.
“It’s good because Cam looked like five or six weeks ago, that it might have been longer than that or he may have even had to go back from surgery, but at the moment, touch wood, he’s running well.”
#32 – Mason Wood (soreness)
Walsh: “Being the bye obviously we didn’t risk him, but he’s up and going and available for selection.
“It was just a minor setback.”
#34 – Jamie Macmillan (broken fibula)
Walsh: “Round 13-15 he is. He ran Tuesday over ground and pulled up well. Up until then, he’d been doing most of his running confined to the Alter-G.
“But he’s outside running now and if we can keep stepping that up, join in his skills next week, then maybe the week after he’ll be available.”
