Sam Gibson has labelled himself “right to go” against Sydney on Saturday, just three days after an accident in the North Melbourne gym.

The hard-running midfielder copped a broken nose and some war wounds to the face, but said the incident was overblown.

“It was just one of those unlucky things. I was doing a core exercise over near a squat rack – one thing lead to another, a bar fell and clocked me in the face,” Gibson told NMFC.com.au.

“Essentially I had to have my nose sort of re-jigged, hence the surgery.

“From the surgeon’s perspective and our doctor’s perspective, that’s all it is, a broken nose. As long as the pain’s not too bad, which it isn’t, I’m right to go.”

Back in training on Friday, Gibson said he was surprised with the reaction.

“When you read headlines of guys being rushed to hospital … it was far from that. I actually asked them to put the sirens on and they wouldn’t,” he joked.

“The reason we went to hospital was just to make sure there was no facial fractures and there wasn’t any. From that perspective, it’s probably been a bit overblown.

“If it happened out playing footy, it probably wouldn’t have been such a news story, but because it was a little bit different, it involved a gym and there’s a bit of theatre to it, I guess it just got out of control.”

Despite having to wear some extra bandaging to protect his wounds, Gibson is ready to take on the Swans.

“I had a fitness test this morning and our doc’s really happy with the way I’ve progressed,” he added.

“My surgeon said I’m good to go, so I take confidence out of that and I’ve felt really good … so right to go.”
