In The Mix: North Melbourne v St Kilda
With a side that puts itself into winning positions, is there reason for change?
The Saints currently sit 15th on the ladder, but after a win against Carlton a fortnight ago, they can’t be underestimated. The quality in their midfield still exists from their Grand Final sides, and Nick Riewoldt’s form will make for an intriguing matchup.
The form of those in the VFL warrants consideration, though the short break for Werribee after the Foxtel Cup might affect the chances of those in the wings.
Jack Ziebell’s suspension means there’ll be at least one change.
NMFC.com.au looks at those in contention for a call-up.
Have your say on the potential changes below.
Levi Greenwood
Hard and tough, Greenwood looks the most suited like-for-like option to replace Ziebell. His form for Werribee has been good without knocking the door down, but it could be the perfect chance to regain his spot and keep it.
St Kilda’s dangerous midfielders like Leigh Montagna and Nick Dal Santo may also offer a potential stopping role for Greenwood.
Taylor Hine
With the Saints boasting small forwards the quality of Stephen Milne and Ahmed Saad, the former Sun could be in line for a shutdown role.
He was rock solid in defence and provided plenty going the other way for Werribee on Tuesday night.
Ayden Kennedy
In his fourth season on the North Melbourne list, Ayden Kennedy is yet to make his debut despite pushing for selection regularly in 2012.
After a wretched run with injury, his form is improving every week and his run out of the back half would be welcomed.
Brad McKenzie
After a quiet fortnight, McKenzie returned to his best on the weekend with 22 disposals. Skilful and with the versatility to play anywhere on the ground, he could be a handy addition.
Liam Anthony
A welcome return to form could be the catalyst for another push for selection for Anthony. With over 30 disposals, he was one of North Ballarat’s best.
Last time North played the Saints he racked up 28 possessions, one of his highest tallies of 2012.
Ben Jacobs
With his emergence in an inside midfielder role, Jacobs looms as a capable replacement for Ziebell. He’s knocked up touches at VFL level, and looks ready for the step up should an opportunity present.
Jordan Gysberts
Adjudged best afield in Werribee’s Foxtel Cup win, Gysberts is starting to put his name in lights after a slow start to the year. He can the find footy regularly, and racked up 26 disposals and a goal against the Saints back in 2011.
Luke Delaney
While North’s back six is considered one of its most stable areas, the Crows’ 35 scoring shots and the Eagles’ 30 the week previous could provide reason for concern.
Delaney has been a pillar in defence for the Roosters and may be considered should Brad Scott look for some extra armoury.
Will Sierakowski
After finally breaking into the side, Sierakowski has had to settle for emergency in the past fortnight. Named in the best for the Tigers on Tuesday night, he’s doing his all to push for a call-up.
