Daniel Wells said he was ‘disappointed’ by Eddie McGuire’s on-air gaffe which linked Sydney’s Adam Goodes to the King Kong stage show.

On Wednesday morning McGuire’s Triple M co-host Luke Darcy referred to an advertisement for the stage show as a ‘great promo’, to which McGuire responded, ‘Get Adam Goodes down for it do you reckon?’

Wells was questioned on the topic during a media conference ahead of his 200th game.

"Obviously I'm a little bit disappointed about it,” he said.

“He (McGuire) did a fair bit of work after that incident with Adam (Goodes) last week. To his credit, he came down and handled it really well. But to make a silly comment like that, a bit tongue in cheek, but hopefully it doesn't undo all the work he's done in the past.

"It just goes to show that tongue in cheek (or not), you're treading a fine line really. You've just got to be careful.

"I feel for Adam. He's obviously been through a lot the last couple of days and the last couple of weeks and hopefully it hasn't affected him too much. But he's a pretty strong man and we know what Eddie's done and how passionate he is, so there's no doubt if he had his time again he probably wouldn't say it."

McGuire later described the incident as a ‘slip of the tongue’.

"When I make a blue, I will come out and cop it”, he told the media.

"I did the wrong thing, not intentionally, but nevertheless it caused hurt."
