Mitch Hibberd says his minor knee surgery will enable him to have a strong pre-season next year.
The 19-year-old dislocated his knee cap twice in 2016, but is confident in his body going forward.
“I had surgery about two weeks ago just to stabilize my knee a little bit,” Hibberd told NMFC.com.au.
“They pretty much just take a little bit of my hamstring, then strengthen the graft up, so hopefully no more knee issues for me.”
Hibberd played just 13 games this season, but saved his best for last, with a strong performance against the Bulldogs in Werribee’s final match.
“I guess your first year is just all about learning team structures and the way to go about it. I think we’ve done that, so I think I’m in really good stead to attack pre-season and have a good year next year,” he said.
“I only really played 10 games this year, had a couple of injuries and didn’t real get the continuity that you want.”
Despite his frustration at sitting on the sidelines, Hibberd’s first year at Arden Street has been a memorable one.
“From a learning perspective I’ve learnt everything and (I’m) ready for pre-season to have a big 2017,” he said.
“The adjustment’s been huge just from training two or three times a week, to every day.
“I’d loved every minute of it. I’ve formed some really good friendships this year.
“Hopefully I’ll just have a strong pre-season and have some good form in the NAB Cup and just definitely put my hand up.”
