Robbie Tarrant, Jack Ziebell and Daniel Wells have been the Roos’ most influential players in 2016, according to their teammates.
North’s nominees for the AFL Players’ MVP were announced on Monday, with the star trio among 54 players across the competition in the running for the prestigious award.
The award, voted on by every player in the league, has been won by two Kangaroos previously, Wayne Carey (1995 and 1998) and Corey McKernan (1996).
Tarrant has had an outstanding season, listed in the initial 40-man All-Australian squad after taking the scalps of several of the league’s best forwards.
Despite playing just 18 games, Wells has boasted several match-winning performances, averaging 23 disposals and more than five clearances.
Ziebell has averaged 22 disposals a game, sits second at North for tackles, third for clearances, and third for contested possessions. He’s also booted 17 goals.
The recognition doesn’t stop there for Ziebell though; he’s also been labelled the Roos’ ‘Most Courageous Player’.
Meanwhile, 2015 draftee Ryan Clarke is in the running for the ‘Best First Year Player’.
Clarke burst out of the blocks after debuting in Round 16, racking up 70 disposals in his first three senior games.
The 19-year-old has had a fantastic year with VFL affiliate Werribee and will be in the mix for a call-up against Adelaide on Saturday night.
Always inspirational, the skipper Andrew Swallow is nominated for the ‘Best Captain Award’.
