North Melbourne has bolstered its key position stocks after landing versatile tall Matt Whitlock with the No.27 pick overall in Wednesday night's Telstra AFL Draft.
The Kangaroos traded a future first-round pick to Richmond to secure the selection, in exchange for pick 27 and the Tigers' future second-round pick.
The trade enabled the Roos to land their second recruit on the draft's opening night, after they selected midfield dynamo Finn O'Sullivan with their opening pick at No.2 overall.
Whitlock, who stands 197cm, is a Murray Bushrangers product who is capable of playing at both ends of the ground.
The towering tall kicked 27 goals for the Bushrangers this season. With clean hands, he boasts strong marking as both a defender and forward.
Both Whitlock and his twin Jack were tipped to be selected inside the top 25, and the Kangaroos were delighted to see Matt available, with Jack snapped up by Port Adelaide on the draft's second night.
Former North Melbourne skipper and three-time Syd Barker medallist presented Whitlock with his Kangaroos guernsey on draft night.
