He may be coming up against one of the best ruckman in the competition, but Daniel Currie won’t be intimidated by Todd Goldstein.
The former Roo is set to make his Gold Coast debut at Metricon Stadium on Saturday, after three seasons at Arden Street.
“Todd and I had some good battles at training over the years,” Currie told the Courier Mail.
“There were some pretty taxing and competitive sessions at different stages.
“I feel like I know his game pretty well. He’s obviously an exceptional player and I can’t wait for the challenge.
“I came up here hoping to force my way into the senior side and coming up against my old team makes it more special. It’s huge.”
Currie left on good terms with the Kangaroos; seeking an opportunity for more senior football.
It’s one he readily admits would have been tough with Goldstein in the form he’s currently showing.
“Goldy has been exceptionally durable and consistent so I would have been depending on an injury to play senior footy with North. Up here, I was a chance to force my way into the side.’’
“I didn’t do a whole lot wrong while I was there and they (the Kangaroos) wanted me to stay for another two years but they also did not begrudge me a chance to play more senior football.
“Gold Coast met with me and said while they could give me no guarantees, they could see me playing in their side.”
