A fifth Brownlow Medal eluded North Melbourne, but it was no surprise to see captain Andrew Swallow lead the way for his team.

As always, the voting caused plenty of discussion and kangaroos.com.au looks at some interesting facts from the night below.

- North Melbourne's team total was 69 votes out of a possible 132. Despite finishing eighth with 14 wins, the Kangaroos were 11th in the team tallies.

- The evenness of the royal blue and white over the season was evident with 14 players polling on the night.

- Andrew Swallow was North's most consistent player, gathering votes in six games for 10 votes.

- Drew Petrie and Scott Thompson both finished the season strongly with two best afield performances each. Thompson didn't poll until Round 21, but his efforts against Collingwood and the Giants finally caught the eye of the umpires.

- Kangaroos' players swept the votes in Rounds 2, 3 and 13, but on two occasions they had more opponents recognized in wins; perhaps a reflection of the team's consistency across the board.

- Shaun Atley claimed the first votes of his career with two against the Gold Coast in Round 5, a game in which he had a career-high 26 disposals.

- Sam Wright also polled for the first time in his career. 32 possessions, 12 marks and a crucial goal against Essendon in Round 20 were enough to give him the three votes.

The unlucky ones?

- Harvey's match-winning effort against the Bombers in Round 20 with 21 possessions and three goals wasn't enough to win him a vote.

- Ryan Bastinac's 44 possessions and two goals weren't enough to poll in Round 2, nor was Liam Anthony's 38 disposal, two goal haul.

- Swallow and Daniel Wells were second and third respectively in the coaches rankings in Round 8, but Port Adelaide players filled the votes.

- Sam Gibson's 36 disposals and eight marks didn't win him any votes against Melbourne in Round 18, although Swallow and Todd Goldstein were both fantastic.
