Brayden George has signed a two-year contract extension, securing his future at North Melbourne until at least the end of 2026.
The announcement represents a recognition of the injured 20-year-old's dedication and promise, after he suffered the second anterior cruciate ligament injury of his young career.
George, who underwent surgery last week, was taken from the Murray Bushrangers with Pick No.26 in the 2022 AFL Draft as a highly touted forward with eye-catching speed and power.
Having sustained an ACL injury in his draft year, his first year at Arden Street was dedicated to rehabilitation and preparing for 2024.
He made his return to football earlier this year via the VFL, playing predominantly in defence, and was building towards his AFL debut before suffering a second ACL injury against Collingwood’s reserves at the AIA Centre.
"Brayden showed real diligence and strength of character during his ACL rehab last year," North Melbourne head of football talent Brady Rawlings said.
"His latest injury setback is very disappointing for him, but we know he will approach his rehab with the same attitude again and wanted to give him as much comfort throughout the process with this new deal.
"Brayden was highly regarded in his draft year with his long kick, strength and overall explosiveness, and we can’t wait to see what he can do for us when he’s back to full fitness."
George is the sixth Roo to extend his time at Arden Street this year, joining Harry Sheezel, Tristan Xerri, Charlie Comben, Tom Powell and Kallan Dawson.
