New North Melbourne recruit Darcy Tucker said the club's pitch was the decisive factor in the 25-year-old midfielder becoming a Kangaroo.
The former Docker landed at Arden Street alongside Griffin Logue on Wednesday in a trade that saw the Roos receive the two players and a future third-round selection in exchange for a future second round (AFL special assistance), future third round (AFL special assistance) and a future fourth-round selection.
After attracting interest from multiple clubs, Tucker requested to join the royal blue and white in the lead-up to the Trade Period.
"I know there was about four or five clubs that had some real interest when my manager put the feelers out," Tucker told AFL Trade Radio on Thursday.
"I did speak to North Melbourne and Essendon, so they were the two clubs that it came down to in the end and all the talks with North progressed pretty quickly and I was really impressed with the way they went about it.
"They showed the faith in me, and I want to show the faith in them as well."
Although the Kangaroos have struggled of late, Tucker is enthusiastic about what lies ahead for the storied club.
"I know they've had a tough couple of years but from all reports from inside the four walls the culture is really good and they're really ambitious and excited about the future," Tucker said.
"There's some really good young talent with a lot of experienced heads as well so hopefully me and 'Griff' (Logue) can offer some value to the group.
"They haven’t had the couple of years they wanted to have but I've seen first-hand how quickly things can turn.
"I've been through it at Freo and they are playing finals now so hopefully over the next two to three years we can turn it around at the Kangas."
Tucker recorded 108 games at Fremantle, but the Horsham-grown talent was looking to return to Victoria for a "variety of reasons" after seven years in Western Australia.
"I was looking for what was the best fit to maximise my footy career and get the role that I wanted to play and all talks with North were very positive, and they showed that they would value me and want me to play footy for their club for a long time," Tucker said.

Tucker said he was thrilled to arrive at Arden Street with good friend Logue after spending six years together at the Dockers.

"He did have a tough decision to make, he was playing a lot of footy at Freo … I definitely did let him know that I'd be happy to have him come with me.
"I'm sure he can have a huge impact on the North Melbourne Football Club both on and off the field and I can't wait to get started with him."
