Former Docker Darcy Tucker is looking forward to a fresh start at North Melbourne after a long stint in Western Australia.

In a deal struck with Fremantle on Wednesday, the Kangaroos receive Tucker, teammate Griffin Logue and a future third-round selection in exchange for a future second round (AFL compensation), future third round (AFL compensation) and a future fourth-round selection.

"I'm Victorian and have been at Freo for seven years now and it felt like this was the right opportunity to come home, for a variety of reasons," Tucker told North Media.

"Obviously through the COVID years I wasn't able to get back home too much to see my family and friends, so that's one thing I'm really looking forward to.

"I'm really excited for a fresh start and a new opportunity at North, and I can't wait to crack into it."

Originally from Horsham, Tucker was taken by Fremantle with the 27th pick in the 2015 AFL Draft and was often called upon to play various roles across his 108 games at the club.

"I've played a lot of different positions over my career so far. I really think my strengths are as a midfielder but versatility is also one of my strengths as well," Tucker mentioned.

"I've played on the wing, half-forward, half-back, but I do see myself as that hybrid midfielder that can really help the team in a variety of ways."

Despite already being familiar with some current Roos, the big-bodied utility says he's eager to arrive at Arden Street and show his face.

"I'm really excited to meet all the boys … it's a very good young group and the cohesion here is awesome," Tucker said.

"I can't wait to get stuck into pre-season and prove myself."

Tucker will be joined at the Roos by fellow former Docker Logue and says the defender's addition to North at the same time will make the switch smoother.

"It makes (the move) heaps better, I'm good friends with 'Griff' so to hear he's coming (to North) as well is exciting and it'll make the transition a bit easier," Tucker said.
