North Melbourne captain Jack Ziebell has praised the attitude of returning midfielder Jaidyn Stephenson, ahead of the Kangaroos’ Round 3 clash with Brisbane at the Gabba.

Stephenson was omitted following the defeat to Hawthorn in the season opener, but has swiftly earned a recall.

"It’s never easy for a high-profile recruit to be omitted and sent back to the VFL," Ziebell acknowledged.

"But his attitude, going to the game and the way he played and got through it was outstanding and a true testament to his character."

The former Magpie collected 24 disposals, four inside 50s and two clearances in North Melbourne’s 24-point win over Williamstown on Sunday.

"He played his role for the team and finds himself back in the seniors this week. For us, it’s (about) how he can contribute, to help get his job done for the team," Ziebell outlined.

"We know what he can do when he’s up and going, with the ball in his hand. He can kick goals from just about anywhere and accumulate big numbers in the midfield.

"The most important thing for us is that he does his job and does it well, and all the rest comes (from there).

"I think he got a lot of confidence out of last week as well, just going back, playing footy and enjoying it for what it is.

"So far this week he’s had a really good energy about him, which is exciting for us, and hopefully we can get him back playing his best footy quickly."

Stephenson’s return is timely, with the Kangaroos to take on one of the League’s most fearsome teams in their own den.

"They’ve been one of the best teams in the competition for the last two years, and we’re under no illusions," Ziebell imparted.

"When you play Brisbane in Brisbane, it’s a hell of a task, but we’re really looking forward to it as well.

"To pit ourselves against one of the best teams in the competition and see where we’re at, we’re really excited by the challenge."

In taking part in the match, North Melbourne will support the Lions’ Community Flood Relief Match initiative.

Ziebell, recruit Hugh Greenwood and key defenders Ben McKay and Josh Walker will donate their match-worn boots from the game to the Lions’ online fundraising auction.

Fans will be able to bid on the boots from the opening bounce, and all funds raised will go directly to the Queensland football community affected by the floods.

"It was a very, very easy decision," the skipper affirmed.

"We feel very fortunate to be a part of this match. To be able to raise some money and auction off a pair of boots, it’s miniscule in what we can do but might have a bit of an impact for a lot of people around.

"There weren’t many questions, it was just, 'how can we help and what do you need us to do?'"
