Ben Jacobs left no stone unturned in his work on the training track over summer, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The 21-year old couldn’t hold back his smile after learning he’d be making his North debut against Collingwood.

Jacobs was told the news by a beaming Brad Scott at Aegis Park on Thursday.

"You've had a really good pre-season. You're prepared. You'll get your opportunity Round 1," the senior coach told Jacobs.

"You're ready to go, back in your preparation and you're going to become a really valuable player for us. From the time the ball bounces on Sunday, go out and back your instincts.”

Scott implored the former Port Adelaide player to back himself and take the game on.

"If you make mistakes it doesn't matter. The only mistakes I get frustrated about are the ones through hesitation. You know our system and you know the way we play."

Speaking to NMFC.com.au soon after hearing the news, Jacobs described his emotions.

"I was still in training mode and Brad came across, pulled me aside and I didn't know what that was going to be about,” he said.

"I was over the moon and wasn't expecting it so early considering there was match committee later today. I'm stoked to be able to get out there.”

In two seasons at Port Adelaide, Jacobs played 26 games, yet none with as much anticipation as this Sunday against the Magpies.

"I can't think of any better way to start my career at North on a big Sunday afternoon.

"It'll probably be the biggest game I've ever played in."
