Despite a winning run, Brad Scott has shown he’s willing to make changes after switching Mason Wood for Kayne Turner just 90 minutes out from the opening bounce on Saturday on the Gold Coast.
Individual performances aside, it’s the match-ups and playing conditions that dictated the move and this week won’t be any different against the second-placed Dogs.
Will Scott and the match committee be tempted to shake things up or maintain the status quo against the face paced and bullish ‘Sons of the West’ on Friday night?
North was smashed in clearances and contested possession last time the sides played, meaning this is where the game will no doubt be won.
Have your say on the potential changes in the comments below.
Midfielders
Trent Dumont
An inside midfielder, Dumont could be called on to bolster the Roos ball winning stocks, however his leg speed could be a concern against a nifty Bulldogs outfit. His numbers against the Bombers in the VFL stacked up well and included 21 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles and a goal.
Declan Mountford
If pace is what the Kangaroos need, Mountford has it in spades. Quick off the mark and able to lay his fair share of tackles, the draftee could come into consideration. In his last outing at VFL level, he racked up 21 disposals, 5 marks and 5 tackles.
Farren Ray
Upgraded from the rookie list, Ray could provide some more run and experience. Despite limited preparation due to a VFL bye last week, his professional approach would hold him in good stead. When he last played for the Tigers in the twos in Round 1, he had 29 possessions and 5 inside 50s.
Forwards
Mason Wood
A late withdrawal last weekend, Wood would be first in line for selection should North need another tall. Dropped at the last minute because of the slippery conditions expected at Metricon in the second half, Wood was unlucky not to have played his second game for the year.
Majak Daw
The Bulldogs don't have too many tall in defence and Daw could be used to stretch them even further. The forward/ruckman has had a solid start to the year with Werribee in the VFL and plays the Etihad ground well. Against Frankston a fortnight ago, Daw had 13 disposals, 40 hit-outs, 7 tackles and 6 marks.
Defenders
Lachlan Hansen
With Robbie Tarrant proving his fitness after an ankle scare, Hansen was relegated to the emergency list yet again. A proven performer, he’s ready to come in should the opportunity arise. He had plenty of the ball in the VFL with 25 disposals and 14 marks.
Aaron Mullett
Sitting just outside the current 22, Mullet’s run and drive off half back could be utilised this week. A penetrating kick and good user, North might look to him for some added rebound out of defence. His VFL form was strong with 23 disposals, 6 marks and 5 tackles in his last game.
