North Melbourne’s VFLW side has registered its biggest win of the year against Carlton at Arden Street.
In an impressive team victory, it was the Roos that had the early momentum, kicking four first quarter goals.
North’s defence stood firm, with Carlton scoring their only goal for the day in the third quarter.
VFLW Coach Cheyne Webster says that the 46-point-win was a true reflection of the progress the team has been making each week.
“Today was the four-quarter effort we’ve been searching for all season,” he told North Media.
“Too often we’ve played in patches – but it was great to see the girls out together with a performance like that.”
As the AFLW off-season commences, the talent is starting to transition through the VFLW program.
Webster says this change is a great opportunity for all parties.
“Having the AFLW girls come into the group is a win-win. The younger players learn so much and get so much confidence when they are around at training,” he said.
Daria Bannister and Bella Eddey returned to the game and didn’t miss a beat.
Bannister had an incredible game, with 2 goals, 20 touches and 10 tackles, while Eddey amassed 22 disposals, 5 marks and 5 inside 50s.
VFLW-listed player Sarah Skinner had an impressive 32 possessions and 1 goal, Jess Mourney gained 17 touches and 8 marks and Brooke Brown played an integral role down back, with 12 kicks and 4 handballs.
Webster chose to focus more on the overall team, as opposed to individual performances.
“It was great to see all the girls take the game on, and they all got a lot of reward for their efforts,” he said.
“It was the most aggressive we have been with our ball movement all season – every player played their role.”
