North Melbourne's VFLW side has secured its second win of the season with a narrow victory against Williamstown.
In a great display of contested football at Arden Street, it was the Seagulls who gained early momentum, kicking three-goals to North’s one in the first half.
But the Kangaroos responded with an outstanding third quarter, leaving Williamstown answerless for the rest of the game.
Tahni Nestor, Meagan Kiely and Reni Hicks were among the Roos' standouts in the 4-point victory.
VFLW Coach Cheyne Webster was especially proud of the Roos’ weekly improvements.
“We dominated the game for long periods of time.” Webster told North Media.
“Our third quarter was probably the most connected we’ve been all season. The midfield was terrific, and at both ends of the ground we took control of the contest.”
AFLW-listed Tahni Nestor had an important role, finishing with 16 disposals and 3 tackles.
“Tahni really showed her leadership at critical times in the game. It was great to have her with us, not only with the ball in hand but her direction to the younger players was first class.” Webster said.
In her debut in the North colours, Reni Hicks finished with 15 touches and a whopping 12 tackles, while VFLW Captain Meagan Kiely finished with 22 disposals and nine tackles.
Although content with North’s win, Webster says there is room for improvement.
“We need to get better at getting some reward for our effort when we are on top in games.”
