David Noble says he's given Anthony Rocca "a bit of a license" to help train the North players in the art of the torpedo punt.
Rocca is working closely with the club's key-position players and rucks in a development coaching role, but is also known as one of the greatest exponents of the long kick in the game's history. Noble keen to make the most of the former Swan and Magpie's specialty.
“We have Anthony Rocca on board as our ruck coach and we give him a bit of a license to teach our guys how to kick torps,” he said on SEN.
“You never know, by the end of the year we might be launching a few.
“None of our guys have been people to out-kick (Anthony) Rocca at the moment, so he still has them covered."
Noble said he'd spoken with Rocca on how the Roos could utilise the torpedo punt to provide an edge in games.
“I don’t mind having those areas of the game,” he added.
“It’s a bit of a lost art and I did have a chat to him genuinely about teaching the guys the art of kicking a good torpedo.
“I am surprised (it’s not used more often); it would be nice if we could get a couple (of players) who could get on to them. Jaidyn Stephenson doesn’t actually go too bad with it."
