Andrew Swallow admits running onto the track with a new captain "feels a bit different", but is backing Jack Ziebell to excel in the role.

“Number one, the way he plays his footy; in a really aggressive manner, he attacks the footy hard … from that point of view you couldn’t ask for anything more from a captain,” Swallow said.

“But he also provides great voice out on the track and on the ground.

“I think if he brings those things he’s going to do a really good job.”

Swallow said Ziebell was the logical choice to become North’s new captain, after he stepped down from the role in October.

“It was just a natural progression and (I) really felt like it was the right time for him to come in and take over,” he said.

“Congratulations to Jack, and Robbie Tarrant stepping up as vice-captain, as well as the other boys in the leadership group.

“They are doing a great job; they’ve been outstanding so far.”

Swallow’s leadership experience will remain vital with a young, emerging list.

“I still wanted to be involved and that’s why I stuck my hand up to be in the leadership group, help out where I can and provide a bit of advice when it’s needed.

“I think I’m the longest serving player now at the club, so I still feel like I need to provide that voice and direction and encouragement.

“There’s a little bit of pressure off, but there’s still going to be a role out there for me.”
