North Melbourne has opted to send Tarryn Thomas in for season-ending surgery on his injured left foot.
The 2019 rising star hobbled from the ground while playing Essendon at Metricon Oval in Round 6, after his leg was pinned underneath an opposition player in a tackle.
After treatment in the rooms for a syndesmosis injury, Thomas returned to the field and played out the game knowing no further damage could be done.
North GM Football, Brady Rawlings, said the club consulted several specialists before making a decision on Thomas’s treatment plan and rehabilitation.
“The specialists advised intervention was necessary on this occasion,” North GM Football Brady Rawlings said.
“It’s very unfortunate for Tarryn and for the team, but we always make decisions based on professional opinion, and with the long-term health and well-being of our players front of mind.”
Thomas, 20, has played 26 games since being picked with the No.8 selection in the 2018 Draft, and received a rising star nomination in his debut year.
