Trying to identify North’s single best contributor in Werribee’s 82-point thrashing of Collingwood in the VFL on Saturday could almost be described as impossible.

The list is long, and the numbers are impressive.

Levi Greenwood was just one of the standouts and collected 38 possessions and 2 goals.

“It’s good to get into a bit of form just before the finals start,” he told kangaroos.com.au in the rooms at Victoria Park after the match.

“I just ran hard and got into some good spots and ended up getting a bit of it.”

The midfielder also had 6 marks, 4 tackles and 8 clearances.

“Last week was pretty average and we’ve been playing on some pretty heavy grounds in the last month, so it was good to get a nice dry deck and end up having a pretty good game.”

The 23-year old has played just five AFL matches this year, after 13 in an injury plagued 2011.

“It’s obviously been hard, playing good footy and not getting a go and I haven’t played much seniors this year with North, but it’s important to keep your head up,” he said.

“While the boys are winning you don’t expect changes and you don’t get too down. You’ve just got to keep doing what you can and hope that an opportunity pops up in the next couple of weeks.”

Greenwood’s attitude is a healthy one, for him and the Kangaroos with pressure constantly on for spots in the senior AFL side.

“Every time we have a good game in the VFL, I’m sure they’re feeling it in the AFL and that’s probably what’s making us such a good team at the moment and a better team this year because we’ve got a lot of depth.

“Any player in the VFL could come up straight away and play some good footy so it’s just pushing the club forward.”

Ben Warren is another player doing his bit after yet another 5 goal haul.

“I’ve been lucky enough I guess this year to get on the end of a few,” a modest Warren said.

His work rate up the field also enabled him to collect 19 disposals and 9 marks.

“I had a big pre-season and worked on a lot of things and hopefully this is just the result of that hard work. It would have been nice to get a few more senior games under my belt but obviously they’ve been playing really well and the spot’s not there.”

For Malcolm Lynch, the year has been a frustrating one. Unable to have a pre-season due to injury, the nifty midfielder was recently hampered by hip soreness and was forced to miss a week of football following a trip to Perth for the Foxtel Cup final.

However the 24-year old believes the break came at the perfect time.

“It was getting to that point in the year where I probably needed a rest and now it’s feeling really good. Having the week off was probably the best thing and it showed today.”

Fresh and full of run, he had 21 possessions, 7 marks and 3 goals in one of his best games of the year.

“It’s always difficult. You want to have a smooth transition to a new club, but it’s been difficult learning the new structures and new style of play but it’s coming good now and I’m starting to feel good.

“It’s been a bit of a tough road for me but it’s always exciting with the finals coming around.”

Ben Speight knows exactly what Lynch is going through. Missing out on a pre-season with a shoulder injury, the dashing small has taken some time to find his groove.

“I’ve had a disappointing season,” Speight said.

“I did my shoulder last year and I just haven’t gotten back to where I finished off last season yet but my last couple of games have been alright.”

‘Alright’ is an understatement and Speight’s 20 touches, 5 marks and 3 goals could easily be labelled ‘brilliant’.

“I don’t want to make excuses, but it’s tough when you’re not doing a full pre-season like the other boys with all the contact. I don’t want to make excuses, I just want to finish out the year with Werribee and hopefully we can go deep into the finals.”

There were also some other fantastic efforts including Ben McKinley’s 21 disposal, 12 mark and 2 goal game.

Majak Daw played more time in the ruck with Cam Pedersen sidelined with an ankle injury and had 14 possessions, 23 hit-outs and a goal to his name.

Ayden Kennedy stood up in defence yet again with 11 touches and even made a rare foray into attack for a goal, while Brad Mangan played as a forward with 9 disposals, 5 marks and 4 behinds.

Werribee’s win keeps the side in the top eight and other results over the weekend will determine its first opponent in the finals.
