Scott: ‘No’ to lottery draft
North Melbourne coach Brad Scott has weighed into the AFL’s tanking debate.
North Melbourne coach Brad Scott has weighed into the AFL’s tanking debate, claiming a lottery draft system would lead to inequality in the game.
“One of the core fundamentals of our competition is equalisation and when a side finishes on the bottom, I think they deserve the first pick,” Scott told kangaroos.com.au on Thursday in his Interactive Team of the Week video.
Tigers’ coach Damien Hardwick called for the NBA-style draft lottery, but Scott says the scrapping of bonus draft picks for underperformed sides has made the argument irrelevant.
“The tanking issue has been brought up because of the priority pick system. The AFL have remedied that and we no longer have that priority pick system.
