NORTH Melbourne veteran Brent Harvey plans to undertake a coaching role at the club while he serves his six-week suspension next season.

Harvey will miss over a quarter of the 2013 season, his 18th in the AFL, after he was suspended in North Melbourne's elimination final against West Coast, and says he will use the time to develop his coaching skills.

"People close to me know I do love my football, so I definitely will pursue that (coaching) after football," Harvey told The Footy Show.

"This will certainly give me a taste of what it's about, and six weeks is a long time.

"I've just got to find something that can really help the football club now and put my best foot forward and help these young guys develop as quickly as possible."

While admitting the suspension will give him a chance to develop his coaching skills, Harvey said he remained upset over the tribunal's decision.

"[I'm] very disappointed in the outcome, not only missing six weeks, but the other thing is, there was no evidence to find me guilty," Harvey said.

"But saying that, I've got to put it behind me, because there's no use dwelling on it because it's not going to make it any easier for me so I've just got to look forward and help focus on some things I can help the football club with."

Harvey said he had no regrets about challenging the decision at the tribunal.

"It's easy to say yes right now [that I should have accepted the ban]," Harvey said.

"The reason I didn't cop it was because there was no evidence, not one thing led to say that I actually struck Selwood."
