Thomas embraces bright future
North Melbourne forward Lindsay Thomas has signed a new deal, committing to the Kangaroos for a further two-years.
After an up and down year in front of goal in 2011, the 24-year old put the kicking yips behind him to turn in a wonderful season which included 38 goals, 19 behinds.
“It was an easy decision for me to be honest. My manager Michael Quinlan and the club have been in close contact all year but we didn’t really rush anything and just let it take its course,” Thomas told kangaroos.com.au.
“I’ve always said I wanted to be a part of North’s next premiership and the way things are going, it won’t be too long.”
Thomas, originally from South Australia, says his family is happy in Melbourne and the recent signings of other upcoming North stars also helped him make up his mind.
“Todd (Goldstein), Basty (Ryan Bastinac) and Andrew Swallow…they all just signed and that’s why I didn’t hesitate. It’s a massive boost to have them all staying.”
The timing couldn’t have been better for Thomas, with his partner Hannah pregnant and the pair expecting their second child in April.
“Lindsay showed an amazing amount of character and mental strength to perform the way he did this year,” chief of football Donald McDonald said.
“His goal kicking, tackling pressure and work ethic has made him one of the most dangerous small forwards in the game and we feel there is a lot of improvement left being so early in his career. We know he’ll do everything in his power to keep developing and learning.
“We are delighted that yet another one of our talented young players has committed to the club and it makes for a bright future.”
