kangaroos.com.au looks at how the game was won - by the numbers.
The team
- North’s tally of 16 goals straight was the most accurate performance since Champion Data started recording the statistic in 1999.
- The Kangaroos’ goal-accuracy of 94 per cent (24 goals and 5 behinds) was easily the best of any team in Round 16.
- The 53-point win was the club’s second highest of the season.
- Remarkably, the winners had 55 fewer disposals than their opponent (323 to 378), but their use of the ball was top notch. The Kangaroos’ efficiency rating of 77 per cent was the best in the league for the round.
- 39 clearances was North’s best since Round 9. The Blues sat second in clearances in the league, adding further merit to the Kangaroos’ efforts.
Individuals
- Todd Goldstein played 100 per cent of game-time for just the third time in his career and first time this year. He also had 38 hit-outs, equal-most of any player in Round 16.
- Daniel Wells pumped the ball inside 50 on 7 occasions, and registered eight clearances. He also finished with 26 disposals in a terrific performance. He wasn’t alone in the middle though with captain Andrew Swallow collecting nine clearances and 6 inside 50’s.
- Lachlan Hansen’s impact since returning to the team can’t be understated. He pulled down 4 contested marks, almost half his team’s tally.
- Drew Petrie’s 7 goal haul was the highest of the round and equal-highest of his career. The last time he kicked 7 was against the Bulldogs in 2007 - Glenn Archer’s 300th game. The vice-captain pulled down 5 marks inside the arc and now sits 6th in the league in that category. Each of Petrie’s goals was from a set shot.
- Brent Harvey’s use of the ball was first-class. He finished with 95 per cent efficiency, the highest rating in the league for players with 20 touches or more for the round.
- Nathan Grima’s 9 spoils were pivotal to stopping several attacks from Carlton and he equalled last week’s effort in that category. He finished with 11 one percenters, coming off 12 against the Eagles and leads the competition with 9 per game this season.
