There was a lot of talk about Drew Petrie choosing to play footy over being at the birth of his second child, but thankfully it’s a dilemma he didn’t have to face.

At 2.02pm on Thursday afternoon, the North Melbourne forward and wife Nicole welcomed a new baby girl into the world.

Weighing 7lb 14oz, little Abby Jade Petrie is now the apple of Drew’s eye and joins older brother Jack in the Petrie family.

“She’s gorgeous, she’s so cute,” a glowing Petrie told kangaroos.com.au.

“She’s got beautiful eyes and chubby little cheeks…It’s still surreal and different to the first time when Jack was born.”

The 29-year old made headlines last week saying, “"I've had the conversation with the wife, what if she goes into labour on game day, so no doubt you want to know the answer to that," Petrie said.

"I won't be missing a game of footy, she's good with that…If it was my first child, we agreed I'd miss a game.

"But lucky we had him in October, that was the off season so it was perfect and this time I won't miss a game."

Petrie never though it would be a drama and was proven right with the family all together and doing well.

“Nicole is coping really great, we’re very happy,” he added on Thursday.
