Club legend Glenn Archer is confident the Kangaroos will make significant inroads this season after two consecutive ninth place finishes.

Speaking to the Herald Sun’s Rebecca Williams, the Shinboner of the Century believes the club is well placed to make finals.

"They definitely can (make finals) with the talent that they have got. They are a year older than last year and more experienced with another pre-season under their belt."

Archer believes excellent recruiting and the recent maturing of draft picks will provide a decent platform for Brad Scott to work from.

"The recruiting has been brilliant (in) the last three years," he said. "With the drafting picks that they have had, they never really get real (high) picks, so to be able to build the strong midfield group with the picks that they have had, I reckon the recruiters have done a real good job."

The last three years have brought players such as Shaun Atley, Kieran Harper, Ryan Bastinac, Ben Cunnington and Jack Ziebell to North Melbourne; a nucleus that will serve the club well for years to come.

When asked about the captaincy and whether Jack Ziebell would be ready for the honour, Archer was nonplussed.

"He has got to toss the coin and give a bit of a pre-match speech. I don't think that would be too hard for Jack."
