Melbourne will take two top-10 draft picks into the 2015 NAB AFL Draft after orchestrating a deal with Gold Coast that sees them land pick No.3 and pick No.10 in exchange for pick No.6 and a future first-round pick.

The swift deal has put the Demons in the frame to swoop on highly rated midfielder Darcy Parish or tall forward Sam Weideman.

The two clubs have also swapped picks No.29 and No.43, with the Demons handing over their second-round pick to the Suns in exchange for Gold Coast's third-round pick.

The Suns have several academy prospects in 2016 including the highly rated youngster Jack Bowes. The points value of their future pick will depend on where the Demons finish next year.

The deal indicates the Demons believe they can progress further up the ladder in 2016.

Melbourne has now managed to turn its first-round draft picks in the past three seasons into Dom Tyson (from Greater Western Sydney), Christian Salem, Christian Petracca and Angus Brayshaw, as well as picks No.3 and No.10 in the NAB AFL Draft.

They also picked up Jesse Hogan as a 17-year-old access selection and Jack Viney as a father-son pick, to accumulate a talented group of youngsters.

Demons football manager Josh Mahoney said the club would now take its two top-10 picks into the draft, ruling out any potential last-minute trades.

"We want to make the most of this time that we're at the bottom of the ladder," Mahoney told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday.

"We've been able to add Tyson and Salem a couple of years ago, Viney and Hogan the year before that, Brayshaw and Petracca last year and then (with) two more quality A-grade players this year, we think that's a really strong mix of young players coming through.

"Right now, this is where our A-grade players are going to come from – they're going to come from the draft."

The Suns were prepared to swap pick No.6 for pick No.3 in discussions involving former Demon Jeremy Howe.
When Howe decided to join Collingwood and the Suns received pick No.10 for Charlie Dixon, discussions were able to progress.

Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft said his club had an eye on next year’s draft.

"Our recruiting guys believe next year’s draft is going to be a strong one as well," he said.

"We haven’t got a confirmed player right now (for pick six). Our guys are of the opinion that three to six is not a massive difference. We feel that there’s enough talent within the first 15 to 20-odd players that we can select someone that can play some senior footy next year.

"Swapping out pick 10 for next year’s first-round selection from Melbourne also presents some very good value."

Melbourne will now take picks 3, 10 and 43 into the national draft, while they also secured Jake Melksham (Essendon) and Ben Kennedy (Collingwood) in this year's NAB AFL Trade Period.

The Dees have lost Howe to the Pies and Jimmy Toumpas to Port Adelaide.

Gold Coast has picks 6, 29, 31 and 35 and expects to secure Matt Rosa from West Coast.
