North Melbourne will honour official club Legends Keith Greig and Wayne Schimmelbusch across its home games at Marvel Stadium in 2025, with the ends of the ground to be named after them.
The northern end will be known as the ‘Greig’ end, and the southern end as the ‘Schimmelbusch’ end.
Greig and Schimmelbusch played 294 and 306 games, respectively, for North Melbourne throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, including the club’s first-ever VFL/AFL premiership in 1975.
They both came to Arden Street from VFA club Brunswick – Greig on the eve of the 1971 season, and Schimmelbusch two years later.
Greig is the only player in North Melbourne’s history to win a premiership, Brownlow Medal (1973 and ‘74) and club best and fairest (1980), as well as serve as captain (1976–78).
Schimmelbusch became a dual premiership player in 1977, succeeded Greig as captain – leading the team for nine seasons until his retirement in 1987 – and was the first player to play 300 games for the Kangaroos.
He served as an assistant to coach John Kennedy after he retired as a player and then became senior coach in his own right from 1990-92.
“It’s a special year for our club as we celebrate our Centenary year in the VFL/AFL and mark the 50-year anniversary of our first premiership in 1975,” North Melbourne president Dr Sonja Hood AM said.
“As two of the longest serving and most decorated players in the club’s history, I’m delighted we can honour Keith and Wayne in this way.”
The 'Greig' and 'Schimmelbusch' ends will be officially unveiled when the Kangaroos host Melbourne on Sunday afternoon at Marvel Stadium.
