Roos confirm Gibson will be traded
New coach Brad Scott says it will be best for the club to trade Josh Gibson
New coach Brad Scott told players and guests at Friday night's Syd Barker Medal count that it was in the best interests of the club to move Gibson on.
Scott said he had spoken with more than 30 players at this week’s NAB AFL Draft Camp in Canberra and asked each of them why they should have the honour of playing for North.
If their answer didn’t satisfy him, Scott said they were crossed off the list.
“So on that note, I asked another player whether he desperately wanted to be part of North Melbourne next year, and Josh Gibson answered ‘no’,” Scott said.
“So on Monday morning we will trade him out of the club, we will move him out and we will get two young players who desperately want to play here.
“If you don’t want to play for this club you can play for someone else because we have got something special here.”
Gibson, 25, played every game for the Roos this season to take his career tally to 65 but advised the club early last month that he wanted to be traded to Hawthorn.
He did not attend the count, which was also a testimonial for retired teammate Adam Simpson.
