Macmillan goal
Only four minutes had elapsed when North registered its first highlight of the day.
Michael Firrito roved the pack on the wing and kicked to half-forward where plenty of Kangaroos had gathered. Luke Delaney couldn't mark, but Jamie Macmillan is in the perfect position for the crumb. He gathers, runs to 50 and with the aid of a shepherd from Lachlan Hansen, the ball goes sailing through for a great goal.
Cunnington smother
Fremantle has been on top for the majority of the game as it goes on the attack again midway through the second term.
David Mundy gathers across half-forward and has a chance to pump the ball long, but tight on the boundary he’s forced to squeeze his kick. With desperation, Ben Cunnington gives chase and dives across the body of Mundy, executing the perfect smother getting the ball across the boundary line.
Thomas clever, Hansen goal
Trailing by 19-points, North needs some brilliance to bring it back into the match. Enter Lindsay Thomas.
While the good work of Michael Firrito to spoil Clancee Pearce is vital, Thomas’ clever tap and push into attack is even more important.
Cruize Garlett kicks long to a dangerous spot, but no mark could be taken. Thomas is at the fall of the ball, and despite missing it at the first attempt, attacks the ball strongly and gathers. He dishes a handball over the top with an opponent bearing down on him, and Lachlan Hansen finishes the job.
Harvey goal
From the first bounce of the final term Andrew Swallow receives a free kick. He bombs it long into the forward 50. The Dockers spoil strongly as they have all day, but this time Brent Harvey is waiting down.
Like he’s done so many times, the number 29 stands up when it’s needed and throws the ball onto his boot for a fantastic goal from about 40 metres.
Thomas goal
Another free kick in the middle and another attacking foray for North as Sam Wright bangs it long.
Again Fremantle wins the contest in the air, but Thomas roves at the front of the pack, puts the ball on his non-preferred foot and kicks a terrific goal.
