Neither Daniel Wells or Nathan Grima could be drawn into confirming their availability for the clash against the Giants this week despite and encouraging fitness test on Monday.

Wells has missed two matches after leaving the field in Round 20 with a calf injury, but says he’s edging closer to a return.

“It definitely feels a lot better than the last couple of sessions I had which is good… but I’ve still got a long way to go,” the midfielder told kangaroos.com.au.

Put to the test with running and skills at Aegis Park, Wells seemed to move freely under the eye of Director and Medical Services Steve Saunders.

“I’ve only started running at pace today. Not too sure about this weekend, but we’ll wait until a bit later on and find out a bit more.

“I’ll get some more physio work on it and probably do another pool session. I’m just trying to build up fitness. I’ve lost three weeks’ worth of games so that’s the next stage.”

Grima is a little more optimistic about his chances, but won’t be putting his hand up unless he’s 100 per cent fit.

“It’s progressing well. It’s still probably not quite there yet, but obviously it’s only Monday so another week would make a big difference,” he said.

“It’s progressing nicely so hopefully train later in the week and put my hand up for selections.”
