Geelong’s Steven Motlop is a near certainty to play on Friday night, according to his coach Chris Scott.

The dangerous Cat suffered a bruised shin early in the qualifying final against Hawthorn and laboured through the rest of the evening. But after training strongly this week, Motlop has put his hand up for selection.

"If he's not 100 per cent, he's virtually there, so our expectation at the moment is that he will play," Scott told AFL.com.au.

Meanwhile, Steve Johnson and Allen Christensen will both have until the last minute to prove their availability for the semi-final.

Johnson is aiming to overcome a troublesome foot and was another who struggled to run out last Friday night’s game against the Hawks.

Despite training during Geelong’s main session on Wednesday, no decision has been made on the dynamic on-baller.

"He trained OK today. We still haven't made a decision on whether we'll play him or not,” Scott added.

"But right at the moment we're not treating him any differently to any of our other players.

"There's no need for a fitness test. He trained and now we'll make a good decision, hopefully."

Christensen has been dealing with back issues for the majority of the year and missed last week’s loss. He has been influential against North Melbourne recently, collecting 29 disposals and 8 inside 50’s in Round 19.

"We still haven't made a decision on Allen," Scott said.

"We meet later on this afternoon and we'll talk about that a little bit more. But I suspect our position with Allen will be to wait another day or so to make a final call."
