North's record breaker
When Paul Harris made the decision to sign up as a member, he had no idea he was about to make history.
The 47-year old lifetime supporter had let his membership lapse since the last time North broke through 34,000 members back in 2008 and this time around, helped the club establish a new record by becoming member 34,372 - one higher than the Roos have ever had before.
"When I got the call from the membership team to tell me I was the record-breaking member I was rapt, I felt like I was part of North Melbourne history now," Harris told NMFC.com.au.
"I'm a bit of a shadow supporter sometimes, I don't come to that many games and often watch from home, but I wanted to show my support and
jump back on board."
Harris witnessed two shattering losses at Etihad Stadium so far this season but was determined not to use it as an excuse to go another year without a membership.
"I was seven in 1977 when North Melbourne won their second premiership. I pretty much decided from that day onwards that the Kangas were my side and I haven't looked back since," Harris said.
"We've been very unlucky this year and I haven't been to any winning games yet but I know we're heading in the right direction so I had to jump on board and support the guys."
Despite not seeing his team where he would like to on the ladder, Harris has a positive outlook on where the side is headed and knows the future is bright with so much young talent at Aegis Park.
"We've come so close and even though we might be the underdogs you know at North Melbourne we never give up. We have a lot of great players coming through with Ben Cunnington, Aaron Black, Shaun Atley and guys like that all playing under great leaders.
"I still think we're a chance of making the eight this year and surprising a few people. We've got a tough run home but I think we can somehow do it."
Harris is now hitting up all his friends to show their Spirit and become a member as the Roos gear up for a big second half of the year and race toward 35,000 members.
"I would tell anyone who is on the verge of re-joining just to dig deep...that really sums it up. I'm encouraging everyone I know to get on board and get a North membership."
