The good news keeps on coming for Michael Firrito, whose wife Bonnie gave birth to the couple's first child just hours after the defender had signed a new contract with North Melbourne.

Lenny Joseph, a baby boy arrived at 10.23pm on Monday night, weighing 7 pound, 10 ounces. The new father says he's never been happier.
"It was very exciting, definitely the best experience of my life," Firrito told NMFC.com.au.

"I just kept shouting out 'it's a boy, it's a boy'! We weren't too fussed either way but I wanted a little boy and I think most dads probably do. I was over the moon."

"We went through a thousand names but we both liked Lenny which means 'brave lion' and Joseph after my dad."

Family, friends and North Melbourne supporters alike are already discussing Lenny as a potential future father-son who, according to Bonnie is the spitting image of his dad.

"I think people are saying 2031 so I'll put that in the calendar," Firrito laughed.

"It would be great if he did something like that (play AFL) but whatever he does, as a parent you just want to give him the best opportunity and every chance in life like both Bonnie's parents and mine gave us."

Like any father, Firrito is already boasting as a proud dad who has formed an instant bond with his new son.

"We're certainly madly in love with him! It's all pretty new to us, but when they (babies) arrive they just rearrange your life completely already. We're a bit tired and it's only been a few days," he added.

"You think you've done a lot of things and experienced a lot of things but a little one comes along and changes all of it. But I'm pretty lucky, I'm on holidays so I get to spend a couple of months with him full-time."

After committing for another year at Aegis Park, the 29-year old can't wait for 2014.

"It's been a bit of a whirlwind week and it's all fantastic. Coming off such a frustrating year, to be able to play on again with the boys is very exciting.
"Signing the contract.... I love the footy club and I love my team-mates so to be able to go through with what I think will be a great period for us."

The Firrito's aren't the only North family with baby news; vice-captain Drew Petrie and All-Australian defender Scott Thompson have announced they too are awating new arrivals.

Petrie's wife Nicole and Thompson's wife Lauren are both expecting.

"It's awesome Drewy and Scotty are both due roughly around the same time so the little ones will have mates to run around with. There's already quite a few kids around, a lot of the boys have got little ones and they keep life exciting."
