How Cunnington finished the season

After missing Rounds 13 and 14 for family reasons, Cunnington returned to the side in Round 15 against Richmond and picked up where he left off.

His 34 disposals against Melbourne in Round 18 earned him the first three Brownlow Medal votes of his career, but his finish to the year suggests they won’t be the last.

Cunnington had 143 clearances in 2013, ranked fourth in competition across the home and away competition. It was a big step-up from his 80 in 2012 as he relished the extra responsibility in Andrew Swallow’s absence during the closing rounds. In the last month he notched 31 clearances at an average of almost eight a game.
