North Melbourne will not always confirm or deny trade rumours and the details relating to the club in this article have not been approved or ratified by it.
Melbourne is targeting Adelaide youngster Jarryd Lyons, the 21-year-old Victorian who has played 12 games since making his debut in round five, 2012.
Having met with 28-year-old Adelaide midfielder Bernie Vince on Friday, the Demons are also contemplating trying to attract the contracted Lyons.
However AFL.com.au understands any deals that might involve the two Crows reaching Melbourne are quite separate and not part of a complicated package exchanging picks and players.
Lyons' dad Marty played 27 games for the Demons during the 1970s, was a good player for Sandringham in the VFA and has been a committee man at the strong St Peter's junior football club that has spawned several Melbourne players.
Adelaide used selection No.61 to pick him in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft and he has performed well, with good hands in tight, great courage and pace. He played nine games in 2013 yet also managed to finish fourth in Glenelg's best and fairest.
The midfielder has one year of his contract with the Crows remaining and AFL.com.au understands he is very happy in Adelaide and with the club but Melbourne could offer more immediate opportunities for Lyons as he tries to establish an AFL career.
Adelaide's manager of list development and strategy David Noble said the club was confident Lyons would remain with the Crows.
"We are aware of Melbourne's interest but he is contracted and has not told us he wants to leave."
Lyons has met with the Demons but remains uncertain whether he is prepared to initiate attempting a move.Lyons' name has also been raised in trade talks with the Brisbane Lions about the homesick Jared Polec, but there is next to no chance of him leaving the Crows to head there.
Vince met with Melbourne on Friday and the Crows released a statement later that evening saying they were aware that the contracted Vince was exploring options.
He is due to travel overseas this week but was expected to speak with coach Brenton Sanderson beforehand.
Crows manager of list development and strategy David Noble said more than one club had expressed interest in Vince during the trade period.
"Bernie is exploring those options with his management," Noble said.
"We respect Bernie’s decision to do so and will maintain open dialogue with he and his management."
Melbourne has also been linked with young Fremantle midfielder Viv Michie and Bomber David Myers as it works towards building midfield depth
Leigh Montagna's name has been linked to Essendon but AFL.com.au understands there is little chance of the contracted Saint, who finished third in the club best and fairest in 2013, making his way to the Bombers.
Essendon has little to offer St Kilda in return for Montagna, with Myers the only player contemplating seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Myers, however, would be more likely to head to Melbourne if he did make the move, which Essendon has made clear will be difficult to manage.
The Saints are still to determine whether they will pull out all stops to make the Nick Dal Santo to North Melbourne trade happen while they wait to see what sort of deal Greater Western Sydney wants to discuss in exchange for defender Josh Bruce.
Making 31-year-old Sam Fisher part of that deal is still possible.
Collingwood's Heath Shaw is expected to make a decision soon after returning from overseas early this week on the club with which he would like the Magpies to enter serious trade discussions.
The most realistic options appear to be Geelong and Greater Western Sydney. Essendon is also interested in Shaw but the difficulty of it being able to put together a deal that would satisfy Collingwood makes them an outsider.
Shaw's decision will have a significant effect on Taylor Adams' options. He is happy to get to Collingwood or the Cats. Collingwood remains in the box seat but the Giants need players more than draft picks.
Sam Docherty looks set to join Carlton, with all parties hopeful a resolution can be reached early this week.
Carlton has picks 28 and 29 (after securing pick number 28 in exchange or Shaun Hampson to Richmond) and the sticking point seems to be which pick the Blues will hand over to secure the talented Docherty, who was pick number 12 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.
West Coast is "working furiously" to reach a deal with the Brisbane Lions for Elliot Yeo, according to football manager Craig Vozzo.
However, the Eagles are yet to increase their offer of pick No.40, despite Fremantle being prepared to part with pick No.33.
Vozzo told AFL.com.au the Eagles remained very confident a deal would be struck, with Yeo nominating them as his preferred club.
