It’s a jumper that has rarely been seen in the history of North Melbourne, but Ben Brown has been granted approval to wear number 50 next season.

After some spirited negotiations, Brown was elated to receive news he can continue wearing his favourite number; one he has worn throughout his junior and VFL career.

It will require a reshuffle in the change rooms – currently the locker numbers only go up to 46, before a spare locker reserved to commemorate the games record holder at the club Brent Harvey.

There have been just six players wear the number 50 in a senior game for the club. The most recognisable of the six was Mick Martyn. He played 21 games in 50 during the 1988 season, kicking one of his 16 career goals in that time.

With both draftees now owning their numbers – Trent Dumont with 14 - it leaves just the two selections in Wednesday morning’s rookie draft to go before the 2014 playing list is finalised.

The lowest number available for the rookies is 36, followed by 40.
