Fantasy: Back on the winners list
Our fantasy team bounced back from a loss last week to record our 12th win of the season, thumping West Coast to the tune of 600 points.
Our fantasy team bounced back from a loss last week to record our 12th win of the season, thumping West Coast to the tune of 600 points.
Tom Rockliff performed admirably as captain, contributing 274 points to our total, while Pearce Hanley was solid in his debut for us. David Swallow was immense with 116 points, while Jimmy Bartel is having yet another outstanding fantasy campaign, scoring 118.
Up front we again boasted two of the best in Jack Gunston (119) and Dustin Martin (115), while Brent Harvey had yet another fantasy ton.
It wasn’t all good news, however. Like most teams, we had Gary Ablett go down with a dislocated shoulder. The latest news is that he’ll undergo season-ending surgery and we’ll need to find a replacement.
Leigh Montagna also struggled, managing just 30 points from the whole game against the Blues. He’s a long way from being a premium midfielder at the moment.
Our team has also been hit hard by the Match Review Panel this week – both Tom Rockliff and Brendon Goddard will sit out this weekend after being handed one match bans. With the duo, plus Ablett all coming out of our team, we’ll need to bring in some big guns to cover.
Our opponent this week
Port Adelaide’s fan team looms large this week, despite sitting fourth on the ladder and winning just one of their last five games. They are loaded with unique players, and boast some big names including Justin Westhoff, Kane Cornes and Matt Suckling. They will also have to replace Gary Ablett, but don’t have either Brendon Goddard or Tom Rockliff, which works against us.
Trade decisions
With Ablett to miss some time, he’s going to need to be moved on. Thankfully he didn’t drop much in price, so we have our pick of the bunch.
Montagna also has to go, but we’re a bit more limited there in terms of options, given he’s dropped to just $437,287. A smarter play would be to keep him for one more week, downgrade a cash cow, and then look to turn him into a top-level mid the week after.
In terms of trade targets, Levi Greenwood must be seriously considered. He’s North’s top scoring fantasy player in 2014, and is in some dominant form. Steve Johnson has bounced back from a mid-season form slump over the past three weeks, and also looms as a tempting option in midfield.
