Luke McDonald’s standing as one of the best young players in the AFL has been supported by his peers and fans alike.

The 19-year-old was named on the interchange of the 22under22 team, announced on Tuesday night.

McDonald enjoyed a whirlwind start to his AFL career in 2014, being matched up against Bombers’ veteran Paul Chapman on debut in Round 1, and quickly securing his place as a valued member in North’s defence.

While he’s averaged 17 disposals a game, it’s been his fearless approach in the contest that’s earnt the most praise.

The left-footer was the third youngest member in the 22under22 side.

McDonald was also recognised as one of the best first year players, finishing fifth.

A strong debut season was highlighted last week when McDonald came third in the NAB Rising Star Award, just behind the Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli and Brisbane’s Lewis Taylor.
