Greater Western Sydney forward Tom Boyd has requested a trade to the Western Bulldogs in another massive twist to the NAB AFL Trade Period.
The Bulldogs confirmed in a statement on Monday morning that Boyd was seeking a move to the Whitten Oval after just one season with the Giants, who selected him with pick No.1 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.
However, the Giants released their own statement immediately, saying they would not trade the prized tall under any circumstances, despite the Bulldogs' willingness to orchestrate a swap for star midfielder Ryan Griffen.
A standoff has developed between the clubs four days after Griffen, who has one year to run on his contract with the Bulldogs, requested a trade to the Giants.
GWS CEO David Matthews said Boyd would not be released from the final year of his contract to join the Bulldogs.
"With Ryan Griffen indicating he will seek a trade to the Giants, we are in discussions with the Western Bulldogs," Matthews said.
"We have been clear with them that despite any speculation or interest, Tom Boyd will not be traded under any circumstances.
"With pick four and potentially another high first-round selection we are confident we are in a strong trade position as we enter the week."
The Bulldogs said they had been informed by Boyd's management, Precision Sports and Entertainment Group, that he was seeking a trade to continue his career at the Whitten Oval.
"The Western Bulldogs have communicated to GWS that we are prepared to achieve this outcome through a direct trade for Ryan Griffen," a club statement read.
"We will now work with the Giants to do a fair deal in the interests of all parties during the trade period."
Boyd played nine games and kicked eight goals in 2014, enjoying a short purple patch in the NEAFL mid-season.
The 19-year-old Victorian is a prototype modern key forward at 200cm, boasting pace and strength, making him an ideal fit for the rebuilding Bulldogs.
GWS boasts a number of young tall forwards, including Jeremy Cameron, Cam McCarthy and Jonathon Patton.
Patton, however, is expected to miss the entire 2015 season after undergoing a knee reconstruction in August.
The Giants have already lost promising youngster Jono O'Rourke to Hawthorn, with key-position player Kristian Jaksch bound for Carlton.
